Hello Gorgeous!

Bacon. The candy of meats, I may have a huge tiny obsession. When I was in Seattle I went to Archie McPhee’s and bought bacon mints and toothpaste. They were really quite gross to be honest. I figured it’s mostly because it’s simulated bacon flavour, and not real bacon delicousness.

For years now I’ve been dying to try chocolate covered bacon. Everyone thinks I’m crazy, but I think it sounds crazy good. I’ve tried candied bacon and it was amazing. You really can’t go wrong with bacon and something sweet. It’s like dipping your bacon in syrup. Pure win!

So when I came across this recipe from NPR, I jumped at the chance to try bacon in cupcakes. I mean what’s not to like? Bacon, good. Cupcakes, good. Maple, good. Bacon maple cupcakes, gooood!

The cake itself is a strange texture in my opinion, for a cake. It’s almost like a muffin in texture, but the sweet and salty combination are such a nice change from a regular cupcake. I cut my bacon up fairly small but left it still a tiny bit chunky so you could really get a good bite of it in the cake. There’s also a lot of perfume from the bacon infused into the cake and it really adds to the whole experience.

The maple cream cheese frosting is good as well, but it’s quite sweet. I added the whole 6 cups of icing sugar that it called for but It was very dense, and I had to thin it out quite a bit before it was spreadable. I would have gone with maybe 4 cups, which would have also cut back on the sweetness.

Over all it’s a good recipe, and I’d make it again with a few tweaks. Afterall, you really can’t go wrong with bacon.

Twilight Tuesday

For Christmas, Twi-Whore and I did a gift exchange. We both had agreed to try as hard as we could to not buy anything Twilighty. While Twi-Whore did really well with it, by getting me a wine rack, a nice bottle of wine, a Scentsy Travel Tin, and a cool shoe calendar, I however, did not.

I started out well, with a cupcake apron and reusable cupcake bag, but then I made a stop into one store and picked up an Edward peanut butter chocolate bar and tin of Vampire Band aids. Not a big deal right? And I had to get it, because it’s perfect.

So on to more shopping for Twi-Whore. I picked up a bookmark for her, which was so cute! But then, I saw the Team Edward water bottles and had to pick that up too. After I looked at everything I had gotten her, I realized that only one thing wasn’t Twi related. Oops. I failed miserably. But I couldn’t help myself, and it’s not like she didn’t like any of it

Plus, now she can bring her water bottle to Forks with her. See, I was thinking ahead!

A Lunar Eclipse

Yesterday, Twi-Whore and I thought it would be a great day for an Eclipse party, what with there being a lunar eclipse and all.

We started around 1:00 in the afternoon, dining on Monte Cristo sandwiches and Mozza Sticks for lunch. We paired it with a delightful Mead we found at the farmers market last weekend. For a treat afterwards we had Ben and Jerry’s Cullen Carmel Hat Trick ice cream, in honor of MoBS. Delicious!

As we ate, we watched Remember Me, and of course, talked during the film. Devil’s Food cupcakes with Peanut Butter icing were snacked on throughout the day. After Remember Me we took a break, made some popcorn, and did a bit of planning for our trip to “Utensil”, before starting Twilight.

We got to the baseball scene before we got bored decided we needed something more active to keep us alert. So we played Guitar Hero!  That definitely helped for a while, and it stayed in the theme when I sang Taylor Swift’s You Belong To Me with the Jacob Black lyrics. Even though it’s a strictly Team Edward party. No dogs allowed.

Once Guitar Hero was finished we made some Baked Bree Brie with carmelized onions and baguette, while we watched Robsessed. *giggle* Surprisingly enough it wasn’t boring. Another bottle of wine was enjoyed, and like the bad Twi-fans we are, we didn’t get around to watching New Moon. Instead we opted for I Love You Man.

Even though it doesn’t sound like it’s Twi related, it definitely was! We can always make something Twi related, and it just so happened that the wedding date in the movie was set for June 30th, the very day that Eclipse is opening! Squee! [Twi-Whore’s note: What are the chances? Really!]

During I Love You Man, we opened another bottle of wine, a rose, and made some M&M’s Oriental Party Pack. Yum! [Twi-Whore’s note: You down with OPP? Ya you know me!] The movie ended just in time to watch the last half hour of SNL, and who would be hosting but none other than Taylor Lautner. We couldn’t have planned it more perfectly. Unless it was The Precious. That would be perfect.

We had a lot of fun and it only sucks because we’ll have to wait another 18 months before we do another one. But we can always find an excuse to have another party. Because really everything reverts back to Twilight. Really. It does.

Twilight Tuesday

Saturday was Twi-Whore’s birthday, and while I wasn’t able to go out like we had planned, because I was sick, I did get her a birthday gift. It was a silly gift to begin with. A month or so ago I had found a coloring book with a Unicorn on the front and thought “I have to get this for Twi-Whore! Oh and I can give it to her for her birthday.”

It kind of stemmed from there. I thought why not get her a bunch of silly things from our favourite Twi-Fics? The first is Unicorns of course from Wide Awake. Next I thought, ooh! Cupcakes! Clipped Wings and Inked Armor Tattward loves cupcakes, so I desperately searched for something cupcakey, and I found the card. After that was Emancipation Proclimation. I thought about buying her handcuffs for the chapter where Carlisle handcuffs Bella, but thought that wasn’t such a nice way to appreciate the story, so then came the idea of the Toblerone. Much better! You can’t go wrong with chocolate.

So that left Tropic of Virgo and Tropic of Gemini. Seeing as Edward doesn’t have many things that he’s crazy about, and I knew it would be a challenge to find thigh high stripey socks, I thought of Alice. Harmonicas! And let me tell you it was not easy to find one! I looked at every Dollar Store in town (and we have a lot) and only one store carries them, plus it was the last one! To top it off I finally found the New Moon Sweethearts! Of course I had to get the Edward one for her. I mean what kind of Twi-friend would I be if I didn’t?

As soon as she opened it she totally knew what everything was for, of course! I couldn’t think of a better gift*, silly as it may be, that summed up our friendship and love for all things Twilight. I hope you had a fabulous Twi-filled birthday Twi-Whore, you’re the Twi-Whore-iest!

*RPattz would obviously be the best gift possible, but chances are we’d just end up fighting over him and frightening the poor guy to death.
