Dorks In Forks

I was going to write a big long post about Twi-Whore’s and my trip to Forks, but I’ve ended up with so many notes that I think I’ll just put it all in point form and perhaps elaborate on the points.

  • In Tacoma. See first sign for Port Angeles and squee. Loudly.
  • The drive seems to take forever but we finally make it to Port Angeles.
  • See first sign to Forks and squee so loudly and hard that tears come from laughing.
  • The drive is so beautiful it makes me want to cry.
  • There’s moss-covered, and I mean covered, trees everywhere.
  • I can see why it’s set there, almost magical feeling.
  • We drive over the bridge into Forks and play the Black Ghosts song from the beginning of Twilight.
  • The Welcome to Forks sign is right there and we squee even louder.
  • We both get a perma grin.
  • Find the hotel and check in. They have Twi stuff everywhere.
  • The hotel room is awesome! Red and black walls with coordinating bedding and towels.
  • Posters with Edward, the cast and Jacob are on the walls. Jacob is creepy. He looks like he’s sneering at us.
  • The next day we go sight-seeing and shopping. Every store has Twi stuff, even the bait and tackle store!
  • Take pictures in front of Forks sign. Charlie drives by and up to us and we wonder if we’ve done anything wrong. Turns out he was just setting a speed trap. Make mental note to mind speed limit on way out-of-town.
  • The Dazzled By Twilight store is awesome! I buy tons of magnets, a bottle of Tru Blood, and a pen.
  • Forks Outfitters (Newtons) has tons of Twi stuff. I buy Edward’s Espresso, Vampire Blood coffee syrup, a magnet for Melissa, and a Spartans hoodie.
  • The flower store lady that was in the Twilight in Forks documentary was very bitchy. She complained forever about me being tax exempt.
  • They really aren’t exaggerating when they say it’s the rainiest place in the Pacific Northwest. It rains every. Single. Day. We want to take pictures of us curled up on the forest floor and looking pained that Edward left us, but it’s just too damned wet and rainy to do so.
  • We go to the chamber of commerce and am told I look like Liza Minnelli. I’m positively horrified!
  • There’s nothing to do in the evenings so we stay in and watch movies and shows on tv.
  • Sunday we head to La Push!
  • We go out-of-town the wrong way and end up driving for about an hour out of our way. However, it was a very beautiful drive and we take a detour to see Big Cedar Tree.
  • The ocean is so beautiful. It’s rainy and angry and the waves are huge and the sky is grey and cloudy. Breathtaking.
  • Finally we head back to La Push and go the right way this time.
  • We find the Treaty Line and take pictures before heading into La Push and First Beach.
  • First Beach is beautiful as well. However it’s so windy and rainy and cold, we only stay for maybe ten minutes at the most. Unfortunately we don’t get a chance to walk on the beach and take more photos.
  • We go back to the Treaty Line for lunch at a diner. Then back to the hotel for a movie marathon.
  • Monday we go to Port Angeles for the day. We stop at a winery on the way and do a tasting.
  • Twi-Whore needs to get her car checked so we wander over to Wal-Mart while we wait. Fortunately it’s nothing that needs immediate attention.
  • We go for a walk by the beach before it starts to rain, then head to some shops downtown to pass time before our dinner reservations.
  • We go into Odyssey Books and Gifts, the bookstore in the book that Bella went to.
  • Everywhere we go people ask if we’re there for Twilight. We blush and sheepishly say yes.
  • We go into an alley to take pictures but they turn out not as funny as we think they are.
  • Dinner at Bella Italia. We even requested the table Edward and Bella sat at. Took Edward out to take a picture and the waitress giggled at us. I’m slightly embarrassed.
  • I had been talking about getting the Mushroom Ravioli for months before we left, but ended up getting the Espresso Smoked Duck Breast. I was not disappointed. It was absolutely amazing! Twi-Whore got the Chicken Saltimbocca.
  • We’re so done with sheeting rain and completely Twi’d out but sad nonetheless to leave.
  • It still seems so surreal that we were even there at all. Honestly I would never go back there but if I had to do it all over again, I’d do it in a heart beat.

Adventures With Ben

I’ve known my friend Ben for close to ten years, but we had never met. Let me explain. I’m part of a fantastic group of people on a message board that’s been around for ten years in August. I joined maybe six months after it was founded, and Ben came along not long after me. I unfortunately had to leave when we moved, and found my way back after a couple of years absence.

A lot of people have met up here and there, mainly living in the US, and a few in Canada, but I’ve never had the chance to meet anyone before. As soon as plans were made to go to Seattle I immediately contacted Ben and asked if he wanted to meet up at some point. I was so excited when he said yes!

We decided to meet for lunch in Bellevue, near his office. Twi-Whore and I showed up and it was a surreal experience meeting him for the first time. I was all goofy grins and awkward hellos. He’s an old pro at meeting people from the board so this was nothing new for him.

When we finally decided on where to go for lunch, (a pub) he introduced me to his mom, and showed me photos of his family, and the properties his company owns, which was really cool.

Lunch was delicious and surprisingly not awkward. It felt like we were old friends (which we were) and hung out all the time. He gave us directions on how to get to Kurt Cobain’s memorial bench (more on that another time) and I gave him a bag full of chips, which he was all excited for. We decided to meet again on Friday at the zoo and spend the afternoon together.

The zoo was so fun. I always forget how much I love going to the zoo, and it’s a good place to go if you’re a bit socially awkward like I tend to be at times.

We got to the gorillas exhibit, and one of them regurgitated it’s lunch into it’s hand right in front of us, and decided to eat it up again. So gross!

Ben was mean and made me go into the bug exhibit. I was so disgusted and terrified that I held my hand and arm over my face the entire time and made a mad rush to get out of there. Not nice.

The komodo dragon was HUGE! I’ve never seen one in person and when it stuck its tongue out it made Ben jump. Twi-Whore and I laughed at him.

By the time we were done, I’d had such a nice visit with him, the conversation flowed easily and I felt like I could joke and laugh at him like I do everyone else. We took a photo of us together to document it and prove each other is really real. He’s a private person so in respect to his wishes I won’t post it here, but I will post another photo I have.

Friday 5

Welcome to this weeks Friday 5, A Little Drizzle.

  1. What’s your favorite thing to put chocolate syrup on? Ice cream.
  2. What’s the best thing to sprinkle cinnamon on? Everything is better with cinnamon.
  3. What’s something that is made superb by a few drops of hot sauce? Nothing. Hot sauce is gross.
  4. What’s something you do with honey? Put it on chicken.
  5. Besides a sandwich, what’s something you put peanut butter on? Cupcakes. Peanut butter icing is delicious!

Thanks for participating, and have a Nutella weekend! I plan to!
