Twilight Tuesday

Last weekend Twi-Whore and I went to Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump. It was really interesting to see all the history of the area, and how the natives herded the buffalo off of the cliff.

For the longest time now I always thought buffalo were extinct, (I still do), even though people are constantly telling me they aren’t. I have yet to see a real live buffalo in my *cough* 30 *cough* years, so I choose to believe they’re not real.

That got me to thinking, what about vampires? With all the lore out there saying they were real, and not just myth, does that mean they were once real as well? And if they were once real, could they still be real, and out there somewhere? Could an Edward or Jasper, or even a *gasp* James, exist?

Would there be “good” vampires like the Cullens out there, or would they all be blood thirsty demons, like most vampire lore makes them out to be? What if they really did sparkle? What if they didn’t have fangs, and had venom instead of blood in their veins?

What if not only vampires existed but the Quileute legends were true and they turned into wolves? What if there’s this whole magical world out there that we don’t know exists?

I bet, if there is one, it has buffalo.

Book Review

This beautifully written, heartfelt memoir touched a nerve among both readers and reviewers. Elizabeth Gilbert tells how she made the difficult choice to leave behind all the trappings of modern American success (marriage, house in the country, career) and find, instead, what she truly wanted from life. Setting out for a year to study three different aspects of her nature amid three different cultures, Gilbert explored the art of pleasure in Italy and the art of devotion in India, and then a balance between the two on the Indonesian island of Bali. By turns rapturous and rueful, this wise and funny author (whom Booklist calls “Anne Lamott’s hip, yoga- practicing, footloose younger sister”) is poised to garner yet more adoring fans.

I recently finished reading Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. After sitting on my book shelf for almost two years, I finally decided to pick it up, and found I was captivated with it from beginning to end.

It was quick read, and splitting the book into three sections with short chapters in between, it made it very easy to pick up and put down. I’m not usually one for a biography of any kind but I really loved her writing. Making it feel like she was talking about someone else and not really herself.

She paints a beautiful picture of the places she’s travelled and people she’s met along the way. It makes me quite interested to see the movie, and find out how much was left intact.
